SRINAGAR: Amidst the forecast of hot and dry weather conditions for the next few days in Kashmir, with mercury continuing to rise in the valley, the weather department has forecast “light” rain in plains and snow over higher reaches at many places from May 11 and 12.

Senior scientist IMD, Dr Mukthar Ahmad, while speaking to Kashmir Life, said that generally dry weather was expected to continue till May 10, followed by the likely possibility of a thunderstorm during the afternoon.

He said that on May 11, partly to generally cloudy weather will be expected, with the possibility of light rain and snow (higher reaches) at many places on May 11 and 12.

“Few places may receive moderate rain, particularly during May 12. Farmers should suspend farming operations during these two days,” he said, adding that on May 13, the weather will be partly to generally cloudy, with light rain expected at a few places, while generally dry weather is likely thereafter, from May 14-17.

He said that temperatures may witness a rise during the next few days and can shoot up to 30°C, but will be followed by rains on the weekend.

As per the weather update issued by the local weather department in Srinagar, farmers have been recommended to halt farming activities on May 11th and 12th.

Notably, this sudden shift in weather comes amidst a recent surge in both day and night temperatures in the valley, prompting people to transition from winter to summer attire after a prolonged winter spell.
