Under the leadership of Ashok Bhat, District President of BJP Srinagar District, a roadshow was organized by the BJP Chanapora constituency to support like-minded party candidates in the upcoming elections.

The rally commenced from the BJP District Headquarters at Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar, and ended at Rawathpora, Barzulla, Srinagar. En route, it passed through Rambagh, Natipora, Chanapora, Barzulla, and nearby areas.

The rally was part of a broader campaign initiated by the BJP Srinagar District to back candidates from like-minded parties participating in the elections.

Speaking at the end of the rally, Ashok Bhat emphasized that although the BJP is not contesting parliamentary elections in Kashmir, they are supporting candidates from parties that share common ground for a brighter and prosperous India.

He saw this as an opportunity for the people of Kashmir to reject candidates from regional political parties that have dominated Kashmir for the past seventy years, perpetuating family rule and politics. He urged workers to inform the masses about these candidates’ wrongdoings to prevent their victory.

The general elections mark a significant political milestone in Jammu and Kashmir since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019 and its transition into a Union territory.

The BJP has decided not to contest elections on three Valley LS seats — Anantnag-Rajouri, Srinagar and Baramulla. Instead it has decided to extend support to candidates of like-minded parties other than the NC, PDP and Congress.

Of the three LS seats in Valley, the Srinagar parliamentary constituency, spread over five districts of Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Pulwama and Shopian, would be going to polls in the 4th phase on May 13.

The BJP has not officially yet declared whom the party would be supporting in the Srinagar seat, where 24 candidates are in the fray but the main contest is between NC’s Aga Ruhullah, PDP’s Waheed Para and Apni Party’s Mohammad Ashraf Mir.
