SRINAGAR: Jammu bound Ahmedabad-Jammu Tawi Express got delayed last night as a passenger who missed the train made a bomb hoax call to the authorities, reports appearing in the media said. The man, who was later arrested, was found to be frustrated young man driven to the state of suicide by protracted joblessness.

Identified as Amit Singh, a resdent of Rajasthan, had boarded the train and then missed it. He rang up the Ahmedabad city police control room claiming there was a bomb on the train.

The train was stopped at Mehsana station, the third stop on the train’s route, around 12.30 pm and checked thoroughly for around one and half hours with the help of bomb disposal and dog squads. Nothing suspicious was found on the train.

Police told reports that there was an unclaimed bag, from which its owners phone number and address was detected. When the police acted on it, they located Amit Singh, the same man who had missed the train.

Singh was arrested and it got revealed that the Rajasthan resident was living in Gujarat but was facing serious unemployment issue and was driven to the point of suicide. He had planned to travel on the train to Jodhpur and commit suicide there. The unclaimed bag, among other things, carried a bottle of pesticide intended for Singh’s desperate act of self-harm.

After missing the train and triggered the bomb hoax, Singh had hopped on to another train and was detained at Unjha railway station.

Police have detained him, lodged an FIR, sent him for medical check-up. He is likely facing two charges – one making a hoax call and another making an attempt to kill himself.
