SRINAGAR

Kashmir Centre for Social and Development Studies (KCSDS) has hailed the statement of Prashant Bhushan, an eminent constitutional lawyer, advocating referendum on the desirability or otherwise of presence of Indian armed forces in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.

According to a statement issued to KNS, in a meeting chaired by Prof. Hameedah Nayeem, the KCSDS members hoped and prayed that more and more saner voices in India join Prashant Bhushan in the advocacy of rights of the people of the state.

The members further hoped that  people of India will realize the importance of listening to Kashmiris’ collective narrative and pressurize the powers that be to resolve and thereby release Kashmiris from nightmarish existence they have been subjected to especially for the past 25 years.

KCSDS has taken strong exception to the statements which are made from time to time about so- called redundancy of UN resolution on Kashmir. Such people betray abysmal ignorance of the fact that these resolutions form the bedrock of disputed nature of Kashmir issue. These people also fail to understand that UN resolutions are the international recognition and acknowledgement of rights of the people of Jammu and Kashmir for self determination. These resolutions are not so much recommendations as agreements between India and Pakistan before international community to give the people of J&K state right to determine their political future.

The meeting, among others, was also participated by Dr. Javid Iqbal, Z.G Mohammad, Shakeel Qalander, Abdul Majid Zargar, Anwar Ashai and Dr. Mubeen Shah.
