In north Kashmir’s Kupwara area, protests against post-delivery death of a lady Rafiqa Begum due to alleged medical negligence rocked Sogam town on Monday with protesters blocking the Kupwara- Lolab road and observing shutdown in several areas.

According to KNS, district administration has started an inquiry into death of lady. Reports said that hundreds of residents including men and women assembled outside SDH Sogam in lolab area and protested against the district hospital administration. They were raising slogans against the administration They also staged a sit-in on Kupwara – Lolab road. The protesters complained: “We are demanding an inquiry into the matter and stern action should be taken against the accused ,” the protesters said. However the Tasildar Zahid Gani and SDM Qazi Irfan of Sogam assured the angry protesters that an inquiry will be started into the matter and whosoever is involved will be punished.

The incharge CMO of district Kupwara Mohd Ramzan , while talking to KNS ,“There is no negligence or non-seriousness of any doctor in the death of the lady. He also said that last night at 10 PM she admitted in the SDH Sogam after labour Pain and at 10:15 pm gave male baby through normal delivery, he also said that her relatives insisted for discharge and later doctors discharge her in late night, however at 4 am she was rushed to SDH Sogam after starting bleeding and the on duty doctors treated and shifted to District Hospital kupwara were she died on the way, he said that “I have started an inquiry into the matter by the team of doctors. Action will be taken against those involved in the matter.”
