SRINAGAR: Amidst the relentless fury of nature, communities in the Jammu region found themselves grappling with the aftermath of a tempestuous rainstorm. Four lives, including those of three minors, were claimed by the rain’s wrath, leaving behind a trail of devastation that stretched across Kishtwar, Ramban, Reasi, and other parts of the region.

In Deval village, tragedy struck when Mohammad Shafi, tending to his cattle, was swept away by the raging currents of a flooded nallah. His lifeless body, a grim reminder of nature’s unpredictable force, was later recovered by grieving villagers.

In the quaint hamlet of Kali Mastt, the joyful echoes of a marriage celebration were shattered by the cruel hand of fate. Mumira Bano, a young girl of seventeen, vanished into the relentless torrents of Dunga nallah while journeying home from the festivities. Despite desperate search efforts, her fate remained uncertain, her absence casting a sombre shadow over the village.

As dawn broke over the rugged terrain, the village of Shadole in Gulabgarh bore witness to a heart-wrenching scene as the ancient earth beneath Abdul Majid’s ancestral home gave way to the merciless onslaught of landslides. The once sturdy four-storey kacha house crumbled like a house of cards, leaving nothing but memories amidst the rubble.

Across the Kishtwar district, homes and livelihoods were torn asunder by the unrelenting downpour. From Nagesni to Mughalmaidan, the landscape bore scars of destruction, with each damaged structure a testament to the resilience of its inhabitants in the face of adversity.

In Ramban, the tranquil serenity of Karool was shattered by the tragic demise of thirteen-year-old Yaqoob Mir, struck down by a monstrous boulder unleashed by the storm. As the heavens wept, homes in Batsool and Chachwah bore the brunt of nature’s fury, their foundations shaken by the relentless onslaught.

Yet amidst the chaos, tales of courage and resilience emerged. In Dessa tehsil of Doda district, villagers rallied together in a desperate bid to rescue young Firdous Ahmed, whose life hung in the balance amidst the turbulent waters of Kund Nullah.

In the village of Palth, Samba district, the loss of twenty-nine goats to an alleged lightning strike cast a pall of sorrow over the community. Even in their grief, villagers sought answers, as veterinary doctors laboured to unravel the mysteries of their untimely demise.

In Kashmir, authorities and the people successfully rescued ten people who were buried after a house collapsed due to heavy rains in north Kashmir’s Boniyar (Uri). An official said a house collapsed due to flash floods caused by heavy rains, and ten people were trapped inside. However, the timely action of the administration led to the successful rescue of all the individuals.
