SRINAGAR: As parts of Kashmir continue to witness thundershowers in the afternoon hours for the last couple of days, the weatherman here has predicted moderate to heavy rainfall in Srinagar and elsewhere from April 27.

Director of the Meteorological department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad said that afternoon thundershowers are expected to continue Thursday as well, with a three-day wet spell forecasted in Jammu and Kashmir from April 27.

“As per the forecast, moderate to heavy rainfall is expected in JK areas, especially in Srinagar, South Kashmir areas, Ramban, and Doda from April 27 to April 29,” he said, adding that the main activity is expected on April 29.

Regarding the drop in the maximum temperature, he mentioned that it will continue to decline in the next few days but is expected to improve from May 01, 2024.

Moreover, according to data, Jammu  Kashmir has recorded normal precipitation from March 01, 2024, to April 24, 2024.

Samba is the only station where deficient rainfall of 22 per cent has been recorded during the period.

Data shows that against the normal precipitation of 187.5 mm, Srinagar has recorded 275.5 mm rainfall during the period.

So far, from March 01 to April 24, Anantnag, Budgam, Bandipora, Baramulla, Ganderbal, Kulgam, Kupwara, Pulwama, and Shopian stations have recorded normal precipitation.

However, despite witnessing hailstorms and moderate rainfall for the last couple of days, Shopian district in South Kashmir has recorded significantly deficient rainfall, with only 70.8 mm rainfall recorded during the period against the normal precipitation of 194.4 mm—(KNO)
