SRINAGAR: As Jammu gears up for the second phase of Lok Sabha elections, security forces intensify patrols in vulnerable zones to counter potential threats. Jammu and Kashmir Police’s Special Operations Group is actively monitoring such areas to deter any malicious activities.

Utilizing modern technology, the police deploy drones for surveillance while employing specialized sniffer dogs to detect and neutralize potential IED threats, ensuring a secure environment for voters.

Recent incidents, like the targeted attack resulting in the death of civilian Mohammad Razaq in Shahdra Sharief, Rajouri, have prompted heightened alertness among law enforcement agencies, who are taking proactive measures to prevent similar occurrences.

The Jammu is slated for polling on April 26, following the earlier phase in Udhampur on April 19.

Other regions, including Anantnag-Rajouri, Srinagar, and Baramulla, are scheduled for subsequent phases in May. Vote counting is set for June 4.

The 2019 Lok Sabha elections saw the BJP securing three seats and the National Conference claiming the remaining three in Jammu and Kashmir.

This election marks the first since the revocation of Article 370 through the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, leading to the bifurcation of the state into the Union Territories of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh.
