SRINAGAR: Amidst a mournful gathering, a large crowd assembled to offer funeral prayers for five individuals who tragically lost their lives in the Jhelum boat capsize in Srinagar’s Gandabal area on Tuesday morning.

Among the deceased were a woman and her two sons, alongside two other local residents, all laid to rest amidst the sombre atmosphere. The funeral procession, held in a local ground, drew a vast crowd, their eyes reflecting the shock and grief that enveloped the Batwara community following the heartbreaking incident.

Residents of the area attributed the tragedy to the absence of a bridge in the locality, which led to today’s devastating loss.

Meanwhile, senior officials from the civil administration and the Jammu and Kashmir Police visited the site to evaluate the situation, while rescue efforts continue in earnest as several individuals remain unaccounted for.
