SRINAGAR: Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières MSF) in Canada has announced the appointment of Sana Bég as its new executive director. Bég, with a distinguished background in humanitarian communications and journalism, brings a wealth of experience to her new role.

Ruby Gill, president of the MSF board of directors in Canada, expressed excitement about Bég’s appointment, citing her exceptional ability to connect MSF’s mission with its medical operations. Bég’s previous role as director of communications in MSF’s South Asia division for six years showcased her talent in enhancing the organization’s humanitarian efforts.

Bég’s career spans journalism roles, including senior producer for Al Jazeera America and work with National Public Radio. Her dedication to journalism extended to teaching aspiring journalists in Kashmir and active involvement with the Society of Professional Journalists. She also worked for Kashmir Life. Sh taught journalism at IUST Awantipora.

In her new capacity, Bég aims to further MSF’s impactful work amidst global crises while emphasizing ethical representation and community inclusion. She brings a critical perspective on the evolving humanitarian landscape, particularly in conflict zones like Gaza, Sudan, and Afghanistan, among others.

Acknowledging the challenges facing humanitarian organizations, Bég stresses the importance of engaging Canadians in addressing these issues collectively. She emphasizes the urgency of adapting to technological, economic, and environmental changes to ensure continued access to medical care for those in crisis.

Bég’s appointment signals a commitment to innovative leadership and a renewed focus on tackling complex global challenges with compassion and resilience.
