SRINAGAR

Shopian police arrested two drug peddlers and recovered four kilograms of poppy straw from their possession, a police statement said.

A police party from Police Station Zainapora, Shopian laid a naka at Zainapora crossing. During naka checking a Motorcycle (JK13-7118) driven by Riyaz Ahmad  Makroo resident of Arwani Bijbehara along with a pillion mate Awrangzeb Bhat resident of Arwani was intercepted.  On search four kilograms of poppy straw was recovered from their possession.

A case FIR number 86/2016 under section 15 NDPS Act was registered against them and investigation was taken up.

The belt is Kashmir’s main contraband growing and marketing belt.
