Police Saturday arrested three culprits for raping two girls in Kulgam.
Identified as Mujeeb-u-Rehman Sofi alias Faheem son of Abdul Rehman Sofi resident of Kulgam, Ashiq Ahmad Shah son of Mohammad Akbar resident of Sheikh Mohalla Kulgam and Towseef Ahmad Zargar son of Abid Hussain resident of Kulgam, police spokesman said the trio was arrested after police received a complaint from a minor girl (name withheld) in presence of Auqaf members of Kulgam on July 26, stating that she along with her friend while on way to their residence was stopped by some unknown persons at Kulgam late in the evening hours and brought them into some unknown building and raped them.
“On receipt of this information, a case FIR number 108/2017 under section 363, 376 RPC was registered in Police Station Kulgam and investigation was set into motion. A special team was constituted under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Kulgam and SHO Kulgam to nab the culprits,” said spokesman.
Medico legal formalities were conducted and the statements have been recorded.
“More arrests are expected in coming days and every possible effort is being made to ensure that strict punishment is awarded to them under law,” he added.
