One person was killed, while five more were injured during an attempt to douse the fire that had engulfed a residential house in Wadwan villge of Budgam district on Friday.

Reports said a residential house in Wadwan, Budgam, belonging to Ghulam Mohammad Dar alias Gulle Khar caught fire on Friday, people of the village rushed to help in extinguishing the fire.

A police official said that while the efforts to douse the fire were on, a gas cylinder inside the burning house exploded, resulting in seriously injuries to six persons.

All the injured were shifted to hospital, where one of them identified as Mohammad Umer Malik son of Mohammad Sultan Malik and resident of Wadwan Budgam, aged 28 succumbed to injuries.

Officials said that the other five persons injured in the incident were referred to JVC hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. They were identified as receiving treatment as Tabbasum Akhtar daughter of Abdul Rehman Bhat, Khurshid Ahmed Najjar son of Abdul Gani Najjar, Kurshid Ahmed Wani son of Abdul Rashid Wani, Abdul Rehaman Bhat, and Dost Mohammad son of Ghulam Mohammad Mir, all residents of Wadwan village.

Police has registered a case regarding the incident and the cause of fire is being investigated. Police is also looking into reasons, which lead people to undertake firefighting operations, leading to the tragedy. (CNS)
