One person died while two others sustained critical injures when a sumo plunged into a 200 feet deep gorge in Uri in North Kashmir.

Locals said that a sumo bearing number JKo5C – 9538 was coming from Dardkot to Uri when it fell in the deep gorge near Dardkot. “The driver escaped unhurt as he jumped out of the sumo and is on the run while three other passengers in the sumo were trapped into it,” a local from the area said.

They added that one person was declared brought dead while two others were referred to SKIMS Srinagar from sub district hospital Uri.

The deceased has been identified as Abdul Majeed (50) s/o Meer Muhammad r/o Dardkot while other two injured are Nazir Ahmad Khan s/o Goor Ali Khan and Bashir Ahmad s/o Hamidullah both of Dardkot, Uri.

The police has registered a case under FIR number 25/2014 under section 304 A and 279, sources said.

Meanwhile, Nadeem Ahmad Shaikh (10) s/o Farooq Ahmad Shaikh r/o Nambla died when he slipped from wooden log bridge while crossing Nambla nallah.

Locals said that he was coming home after attending school in the day. His body was recovered late in the evening at 10 last night.
