Police in South Kashmir’s restive Pulwama district have detained ten alleged “Over Ground Workers” (OGWs) of militants over twin rifle snatching incidents in the district.

Sources in police told GNS that that the ‘OGWs’ were held for ascertaining their involvement in two rifle snatching incidents which took place last month in the district.

On May 24, driver of a local Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) leader in Pulwama fled along with the rifle of latter’s security guard. Although, the driver returned after some days but he had handed over the rifle to a new militant recruit. Two days after this, unknown persons took away an Insas rifle from a police post in the premises of District Hospital.

Following the incidents, police along with army and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) launched massive man hunt in the district and routinely conducted raids at different places.

Police sources revealed that out of 10 ‘OGWs’ four were supposed to join militant ranks.

Confirming the detentions, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Pulwama, Tejinder Singh, said that investigations are on.
