SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Sunday seized ten vehicles involved in illegal mining and transportation of minerals across multiple locations in North Kashmir’s Handwara.
A police spokesperson in a statement said, “Officials said the seizures followed routine patrolling and specific inputs about unauthorised extraction and transport of minerals. The operation led to the interception of nine tractors and one tipper. All were found operating in violation of the Jammu and Kashmir Minor Mineral Concession, Storage, Transportation of Minerals and Prevention of Illegal Mining Rules, 2016.”
The vehicles were without proper documents or permits. Cases have been registered at the respective police stations, and investigations are underway, police said.
Police said action will continue against those extracting minerals unlawfully, especially during night hours. Locals have been urged to report any such activity in their areas.
