SRINAGAR: A 10-year-old boy was killed and six others were injured after a fire broke out at Shah-i-Hamdan Darul Aloom in Tral, in South Kashmir’s Awantipora, on Saturday. According to officials, the fire spread quickly and engulfed the entire building. Fire tenders, with help from police and local residents, managed to bring the blaze under control after sustained efforts, but the entire structure was destroyed.
“The deceased has been identified as Yasir Ahmad, son of Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Karmulla, Tral. The injured have been identified as Majid Ahmad (12), son of Bashir Ahmad Gaggi of Gulshanpora, Ishfaq Ahmad (15), son of Mohammad Ashraf, Altaf Ahmad, son of Masood Ahmad of Zardihard, Irfan Ahmad (12), son of Bashir Ahmad of Batagund, Javid Ahmad (14), son of Mohammad Yousuf of Gulshanpora, and Nasir Ahmad, son of Abdul, of Doodmarg, Tral. All the injured have been shifted to SMHS Hospital in Srinagar for treatment,” officials said.
The cause of the fire is being ascertained. Police have taken cognisance of the incident. (GNS)
