10,000 People Screened by DHSK on the Eve of World Diabetes Day

On the World Diabetes Day, Division of Epidemiology & Public Health, Barzulla under the aegis of Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir (DHSK) launched the initiative at all District Hospitals to ensure screening of maximum number of people and referral of suspect cases for early diagnosis and treatment so as to modify the course of the disease and to reduce the risk of complications.

A statement of the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir said that in this context screening camps were held at all district hospitals and some CHCs across Kashmir Division. A total of 10582 people were screened and around 966 people were found to be suspected for Diabetes.

On the occasion Director Health Services, Kashmir Dr Saleem ur Rehman visited District Hospital Pulwama, Gousia Hospital and JLNM Hospital Rainawari to supervise and monitor the screening camps. He deliberated upon the administrators and the NCD staff to work with utmost dedication so that quantum of diabetes screening is increased and any suspected case of diabetes is picked up early for better treatment plan.

The significance of this day was that various district hospitals across Kashmir were illuminated with symbolic blue light to increase the awareness about diabetes and to sensitize public about the importance of the day and the disease. The camps held today are a part of an on-going activity of screening of the general population for Diabetes, Hypertension and Common Cancers under NPCDCS programme. The activities focus on promoting the importance of screening to ensure early diagnosis of type 2 diabetes and ensure timely treatment so that risk of complications is reduced.
