SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir continues to be a hotspot for the Bollywood and South Indian film industries, with 102 films and web series shot here during 2023.

In the past two years, over 300 films and web series have been filmed in Jammu and Kashmir, drawing praise for showcasing the stunning locations of Kashmir.

In 2023, a total of 102 Bollywood and Tollywood films and web series were granted permission to shoot in Jammu and Kashmir. Among them, notable productions include Shahrukh Khan’s “Dunki,” Yami Gautam’s “Article 370,” and John Abraham’s “Vedaa.”

In the preceding year of 2022, the government approved filming for as many as 200 films and web series in Kashmir.

Officials highlighted that the valley has successfully attracted filmmakers, with many applying for permission to shoot in Kashmir. They credited the film policy as a catalyst in this regard, attracting filmmakers to choose Kashmir as their shooting destination.

The government has also introduced new destinations to promote them as prime film locations.

In 2021, the government launched its maiden film policy to entice filmmakers to Jammu and Kashmir. Additionally, the government established a Film Development Fund (FDF) in the Information Department for the fiscal year 2022-23 to disburse subsidies outlined in the J&K Film Policy 2021.

A single-window mechanism, operated by the Jammu and Kashmir Film Development Council, has been initiated to facilitate hassle-free shooting. Filmmakers are applying online at jkfilm.jk.gov.in.

Since the introduction of the film policy, numerous directors have applied to shoot their films in Jammu and Kashmir. The administration offers filmmakers subsidies to shoot in the union territory—(KNO).
