SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 137 girls trained under the NAVYA (Nurturing Aspirations through Vocational Training for Young Adolescent Girls) programme, according to data tabled in the Lok Sabha on Monday.
The figures were provided by Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Jayant Chaudhary in a written reply to Unstarred Question No. 3657 on August 10.
Across the country, 1,060 girls from 15 States and Union Territories had been trained under NAVYA as of June 30, 2026. Jammu and Kashmir accounted for 137 of these trainees, placing it among the higher-count regions covered under the programme.
Madhya Pradesh recorded the highest number with 168 girls trained, followed by Jammu and Kashmir with 137, Bihar with 112, Uttar Pradesh with 107, Punjab with 99, Gujarat with 95 and Maharashtra with 92.
The government has also decided to expand NAVYA to 100 aspirational districts across the country with effect from May 27, 2026. The programme was initially being implemented in 27 aspirational districts.
NAVYA is being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana 4.0 (PMKVY 4.0), with training focused on industry-relevant skills, including embedded on-the-job training.
The programme also includes a mandatory Holistic Development Module covering digital literacy, financial literacy, career readiness and entrepreneurship orientation, the government said.
The Ministry said implementation and outcomes are monitored through a framework under PMKVY, with the Skill India Digital Hub being used for real-time tracking of beneficiary registration, attendance, training progress, certification and other key performance indicators.
Regular review meetings are also held with Project Implementing Agencies, State Skill Development Missions and other stakeholders to assess progress and address implementation issues.
The government has further advised State Skill Development Missions to facilitate placement and apprenticeship opportunities for certified candidates through industry linkages and employer outreach, with the aim of improving their employability and supporting their economic participation.
