SRINAGAR: At least 14 people were killed and as many injured in a Russian drone attack on a railway station in Ukraine’s Dnipro city on Thursday, Ukrainian authorities said.
Dnipropetrovsk Governor Oleksandr Hanzha initially reported 13 deaths and five injuries in a statement on Telegram before revising both figures to 14.
Hanzha said all but one of the injured had been admitted to hospital, with six in serious condition.
Ukraine’s national railway operator, Ukrzaliznytsia, said a drone hit a platform where a train was stationed when the attack took place.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the strike as a “terrorist strike”, questioning the continued Russian attacks amid recent decisions to lift several sanctions imposed on Moscow.
In a post on X, Zelenskyy called for a stronger response from the United States and Europe, arguing that sanctions against Russia and its military apparatus should remain in place while the war continues.
“This is precisely why Ukraine has always said that just and decisive action by America and Europe is needed in response to Russian escalation,” he wrote, adding that sanctions should not be eased during the ongoing conflict.
Russian authorities had not commented on the reported attack or Ukraine’s statements at the time of publication.
