Lt Gen AK Bhatt has taken over as the new Corps Commander of army’s Srinagar-based 15 Corps.

He will be the 47th Corps Commander of army’s 15 Corps and has succeeded Lt Gen JS Sandhu.

The 15 Corps, known as Chinar Corps, also held a farewell at Badami Bagh Cantonment for outgoing Commander Lt Gen Sandhu, who is proceeding to New Delhi to assume the charge of Military Secretary (MS).

“Lt Gen Sandhu’s tenure will be defined by the successful execution of ‘Operation All Out’ launched by the Security Forces in the Valley,” said an army spokesperson in a statement.

The statement said Sandhu also gave impetus to improving education infrastructure, coaching facilities, skill development, sports and youth empowerment.

“In his farewell message, he complimented all ranks of Chinar Corps for their dedication and thanked the civil administration and Awaam for their support,” the statement said.

“Lt Gen Bhatt was commissioned into the regiment of 9th Gorkha Rifles (Chindits) and has had an illustrious military career spanning 36 years, during which he has held varied prestigious command, staff and instructional appointments,” the spokesperson said.
