After 18 Fridays, Jumu’ah prayers allowed in Jamia Masjid Shopian

Authorities on Friday allowed congregational Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid Shopian.

Reports reaching here said that there was no siege around the Masjid today and people in hoards thronged the masjid to offer mandatory congregational Friday prayers.

Pertinently, Jamia Masjid Shopian was sealed by authorities following the killing of militant commander Burhan Wani on July 8. “The masjid remained locked for Friday prayers for 18 consecutive Fridays.”

No untoward incident was reported post Friday prayers from the area, where Jamia masjid Shopian is located.

Pertinently, Centre for Peace and Protection of Human Rights had submitted a petition before State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) seeking intervention of the Commission for allowing people to offer Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid Srinagar and Jamia Masjid Shopian.

Though prayers were not allowed today in Jamia Masjid Srinagar, however, authorities today allowed Friday prayers in Jamia Masjid Shopian.
