According to family members, the boy had travelled to Uttarakhand with his family to sell shawls during the winter season. The family claimed that the boy was assaulted with iron rods and punches, resulting in a fractured left arm and serious head injuries. They said blood was seen oozing from his head after the attack. Other family members accompanying him were also allegedly dragged, slapped and assaulted.

The injured boy was initially taken to a local hospital and later referred to Doon Hospital in Dehradun due to the severity of his injuries.
