SRINAGAR: Nineteen schools in Srinagar’s Eidgah Assembly constituency are currently operating from rented, temporary or other non-permanent accommodation, the Jammu and Kashmir Government has informed the Legislative Assembly.
In a reply to Starred D. No. 1/6/86 tabled by Eidgah MLA Mubarik Gul, the School Education Department said the schools were functioning from such premises and that their individual locations and the period of operation in non-permanent accommodation had been provided in an annexure.
The government also said school-wise and gender-wise enrolment details, along with the sanctioned, in-position and vacant posts of teaching and non-teaching staff, had been compiled and enclosed with the reply.
Details of funds allocated and expenditure incurred over the last two financial years for construction, upgradation, repairs, renovation and other infrastructure works in the constituency have also been provided under UT CAPEX, District CAPEX and Samagra Shiksha, the department said.
On Hamidi Kashmiri Memorial Degree College, Eidgah, the government said details of the courses offered and corresponding student enrolment were included in a separate annexure.
The department said the college had submitted a proposal to the Director Colleges for introducing major courses in Political Science, English, Geography and Music.
The proposal was examined at a meeting held on May 6, 2026, for verification of subjects and finalisation of undergraduate admission intakes for the 2026-27 academic session.
The department said proposals for introducing new subjects are assessed on factors including student demand, faculty availability, infrastructure, laboratory and library facilities and university affiliation.
During the examination, the college was found not to have the requisite university affiliation for the proposed subjects. It was consequently advised to obtain the required affiliation before its proposals could be considered further for approval.
