SRINAGAR: The Out Patient Department (OPD) services have restarted at Bone and Joint Surgery Hospital, Barzulla Srinagar, a GMC Spokesman said.  The emergency theatre is starting within the next 2-3 days once Road and Buildings Department would give clearance as the fire and water has partially damaged the support system.

In the meantime, the spokesman said the Trauma Unit has been established at SMHS Hospital Srinagar, which caters to poly-trauma with the posting of orthopaedic surgeons also there. Thirty persons injured in a grenade attack at Amira Kadal on Sunday were treated for poly-trauma in this unit at SMHS Hospital.

Presently, among the patients who were evacuated from Bone and Joint Hospital Barzulla Srinagar and need hospitalization, thirty-seven among them are being treated by the orthopaedics department at SMHS Hospital while eighteen patients were referred to the Department of Orthopaedics, SKIMS Medical College Bemina for further management. The rest of the patients with minor problems were discharged.

The hospital, a major and the oldest of GMC’s associated hospitals suffered serious damage Friday night. Most of the 100-odd patients admitted to the hospital were shifted to other hospitals till the conflagration was controlled within four hours.
