A 20-year old girl was allegedly killed by her family in Shehlah village of Handwara last night, reports said.
Local reports said a girl namely Ishrat Bano, daughter of Muhammad Asadullah Bhat, was hanged by her family members with the assistance of some outsiders during night hours inside their home.
They said that the girl purportedly had an affair with a boy against the liking of her family.
SSP Handwara while speaking to Kashmir Life said that he cannot confirm whether the girl was hanged or it is a case of suicide.
“The death looks suspicious. We have initiated action under section 174 Crpc. Once the investigation is over, only then can we comment on the issue,” he said.
