The coaching camps and competitions under “Khelo India Scheme” have started with great fervor across the state in Jammu and Kashmir with more than 2000 athletes, players registering for different competitions.

Camps are being organized in all the major districts of the state including Srinagar, Islamabad, Baramulla, Bandipora, Pulwama, Shopian, Poonch, Udhampur, Reasi and Kathua.

The state sports council had earlier sought the registrations of the trainees and players at Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar and MA Stadium Jammu and respective district units of the Sports council.

A spokesperson of the sports council said that the council is trying best to promote sports at grass- root level and ensure a maximum participation of sports persons and enthusiastic youth. “The selection trials for different sports disciplines will choose the best talent of the state.”

The sole motive of the Sports Council is to promote and propagate the culture of sports among the youth and to encourage the budding sportspersons in the State and such initiatives will continue in future also, he said.

The trainees and the players for the proposed camps and competitions will be selected on a battery of tests and is being screened by the empowered committee’s of the respective districts.

 

A huge number of trainees and players up to the age of 19 years have registered their names in the office of the sports officer Kashmir at Bakshi Stadium Srinagar and sports officer Jammu at MA Stadium Jammu besides managers, In-charges of concerned district stadiums.

In Islamabad, sports camps have been started in Cricket, Football and Netball and almost 204 players have so far participated in the coaching cum competition camp.

In Bandipora, 130 persons have registered themselves for coaching cum completion in the disciplines of volleyball, Wushu and Judo.

In Baramulla, 130 persons registered themselves for under Khelo India in the disciplines of Handball and Athletics.

In Uri, 110 persons registered themselves under Khelo India in the disciplines of Cricket and Kabaddi.

In Budgam, 145 persons registered themselves for under Khelo India in the disciplines of Hockey, Athletics and Wushu.

In Ganderbal, 225 persons registered themselves for under Khelo India in the disciplines of Yoga, Volleyball and Judo.

In Shopian, 114 persons have registered under Khelo India in Thang Ta and Kabbadi.

In Pulwama, 250 registrations were made in Cricket while 70 persons have registered themselves for Basketball and 76 in football.

In Kuthua, the district council office registered 113 participants in volleyball and 70 in Judo.

In RS Pora, 47 registrations were made in Wrestling and 95 in Athletics.

In Samba, 230 registrations were made in the district sports council office.

In Udhampur, 118 registrations were made in the district sports council office. The trial tests will start from 10th January 2017.

In Rajouri, 126 registrations were made in the district sports council office Rajouri.

In Poonch, 150 registrations were made in the district sports council office.
