Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) President, Mehbooba Mufti Friday expressed confidence that the winds of change sweeping the state would cleanse the state politics of all opportunistic politicians who have been part of the present coalition government apart from National Conference and Congress.

“We are hopeful that the people would hold to account those politicians who only indulged corruption, frauds but also have brought disgrace to the political system through their underhand dealings,” she said while addressing various roadside meetings in Gulmarg (Tangmarg) constituency of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Mohammad Abbas Wani, the party candidate for Gulmarg constituency was also present on the occasion.

Mehbooba said the people of the state are politically mature and wise enough to understand the changing realities on the ground and they will vote out all those politicians who have been partner to every crime the Omar Abdullah government has resorted to during last six years. “These opportunistic politicians have been part of killings, torture of youth, mis-governance, loot; plunder of natural resources, corruption and other shameful dealings which the state has suffered for last six years,” she said.

Calling for a decisive mandate for her party, the PDP Chief said it is the duty of the mature electorate of Tangmarg to reject the people who have promoted the culture of nepotism, favoritism, political corruption and treated the state as their personal property by misusing the people’s mandate. “Reject those people who have been doling out favors to their agents and favorites in the form of contracts and jobs without any regard to merit and rules,” she said.

Mehbooba said it is encouraging that the people have started voting on merit  as is evident from the first two phases of elections, and the time is not too far when we will be having a responsible and responsive government under the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed heading the state.

Seeking mandate for Mohammad Abbas Wani, the party’s candidate for Gulmarg constituency, Mehbooba said Abbas is a young, dynamic, honest and promising candidate with qualities required to serve the society. “Abbas is connected with the ground and is aware about the problems  of the people of Tangmarg,” she added.

Unveiling her party’s development agenda for Tangmarg constituency, Mehbooba said the area will be focal point of our tourism development plan for the state. She said once voted to form the government, the PDP will pursue its Greater Gulmarg plan to give a new boost to the tourism activities in the area by making it all weather destination for tourists. She said the plan will not be confined to the main Gulmarg only but that will cover the whole Tanmarg and its adjoining areas like Beerwa and Khansahib as well. She said we will ensure that tourists should not confine themselves to Gulamarg only but should extended their stay in the villages of Tanmarg, Beerwa and Khansahib also, so that every household should reap the benefits of tourism activity.

Mehbooba said the recent floodshas caused huge damage in Tangmarg constituency and the PDP has formulated a flood control plan for the Ferozpur Nallah so that in future the area would remain safe from the floods.

She said also modern sporting and educational facilities will be developed for the local youth in the area.
