SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Administrative Service (JKAS) officer Mohammad Younis Mir, a 2019-batch Junior Scale officer, passed away on Friday after a brief illness, local sources said.
Mir was serving as Assistant Director, Handicrafts and Handloom, in the Industries and Commerce Department at the time of his demise. He had earlier served as State Taxes Officer (Enforcement), Central Kashmir, before being placed at the disposal of the Industries and Commerce Department in July 2025.
During his administrative career, he also served as District Audit Officer for Cooperative Societies in Srinagar. He was part of the Junior Scale JKAS cadre under the Jammu and Kashmir General Administration Department.
Members of the local community noted that he was the first JKAS officer from the Natipora area of Srinagar.
His Namaz-e-Janazah will be offered at 9:30 am at Jinazgah, Natipora.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah expressed profound grief over the untimely demise of the young officer.
In his condolence message, the Chief Minister conveyed his sympathies to the bereaved family, relatives, friends and colleagues of the deceased officer and prayed for strength and fortitude for them to bear the loss.
He also prayed for eternal peace for the departed soul and for him to attain the highest ranks in the hereafter.
