Army claimed on Friday that its personnel rescued 23 people who were trapped due to snow slides and inclement weather on Chowkibal- Tangdhar road near Sadhna pass.

 A statement issued by army said that at around 3 pm on January 7, 2014  three civilians persons who were on their way from Tangdhar, were trapped under a snow slide when they were trying to clear the road for their vehicles.

Army statement said that  on hearing the cries for help and assistance, troops of 20 RR located on the pass reacted immediately and dug out the locals and rescued them.

Army said that they were medically examined and provided required assistances to continue with their journey.

In a second incident, which also occurred on January 7, 2014 at around 10 pm, 20 persons including 16 men, 2 women and 2 children were trapped on the road Chowkibal- Tanghdhar when the vehicles they were travelling in to Tangdhar, got stuck in the snow.

DC Kupwara and SP Kupwara sought help from Army authorities and army unit stationed at Chowkibal responded immediately and sent two separate parties for rescue operations. Moving on foot and clearing the snow on their way up, these parties reached to the stranded and rescued them.

Those rescued were medically examined at the Army base and were given shelter, food and clothing for the night.
