Presenting a detailed report card on the scheme, the minister revealed that 23,497 houses have been completed and handed over to beneficiaries in the region. In terms of financial aid, the government allocated Rs 394.97 crore, with Rs 401.79 crore utilised for the construction and delivery of houses under the scheme.

The scheme, which is part of the broader ‘Housing for All’ mission, aims to ensure affordable housing in urban areas across the country. To expand its reach, the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) launched PMAY-U 2.0, effective from September 1, 2024. The second phase targets an additional one crore households nationwide through four key verticals – Beneficiary Led Construction (BLC), Affordable Housing in Partnership (AHP), Affordable Rental Housing (ARH), and Interest Subsidy Scheme (ISS).

So far, 29 states and Union Territories, including Jammu and Kashmir, have signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) to implement PMAY-U 2.0.

The scheme underscores the government’s commitment to improving housing infrastructure and addressing urban housing challenges, with Jammu and Kashmir emerging as a significant beneficiary of the initiative.
