SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir has recorded 25,568 Waqf properties on the UMEED Central Portal, with 25,248 properties approved as of August 7, 2026, according to data placed before the Lok Sabha on Wednesday.
The figures were disclosed by Union Minority Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju in response to a starred question on technical and operational difficulties being faced by Waqf Boards in uploading property records on the UMEED portal.
The State/UT-wise progress report shows that JK had 223 properties initiated for entry, 34 submitted by makers and pending with checkers, and 10 submitted by checkers and pending with approvers. Five properties had been rejected by approvers, while 48 had been returned to makers.
Across the country, 799,294 Waqf properties had been initiated or completed on the portal by August 7. Of these, 618,247 had been approved, while 39,346 were pending with checkers and 2,050 were pending with approvers.
The Centre said the UMEED Central Portal was launched on June 6, 2025, under the amended Waqf legislation to facilitate uploading of Waqf records, registration of new Waqf and transparent management and governance of Waqf properties.
The Ministry acknowledged that intermittent technical and operational problems had been reported by users in several States and Union Territories, including Kerala. It said the problems were largely transitional and operational and were associated with the digitisation of large volumes of legacy records, variations in internet connectivity, differing levels of digital preparedness among field-level officials and gaps in the availability of records with some Waqf Boards.
The Government said the rapid increase in uploads as the six-month deadline approached led to increased user traffic, following which server capacity was augmented to ensure smoother functioning of the portal.
Under the statutory framework, existing Waqf registered before commencement of the amended Act is required to upload details of the Waqf and the property dedicated to it on the portal within six months. A further extension of up to six months can be granted by the Waqf Tribunal where sufficient cause is shown.
The Ministry said extensions had been granted to State and UT Waqf Boards that sought additional time through the respective Waqf Tribunals or High Courts after expiry of the initial six-month period.
A monitoring mechanism has also been incorporated into the portal to track properties that have been uploaded, approved, kept pending or returned. The system, the Ministry said, helps identify bottlenecks and enables targeted technical assistance and compliance-related intervention.
The UMEED Helpdesk has been operational since the portal’s launch to provide assistance and resolve technical and operational queries.
The national data showed Uttar Pradesh’s Sunni Waqf Board had the highest number of properties initiated or completed at 152,697, followed by West Bengal at 131,764, Maharashtra at 71,947 and Telangana at 63,982.
JK’s 25,568 properties accounted for a significant share of the Waqf records uploaded and processed through the portal in the Union Territory, with the overwhelming majority already approved.
