The state government Thursday informed that twenty nine persons were detained under Public Safety Act (PSA) so far, in 2015.

In a written reply to legislators Showkat Hussian Ganie, the In-charge Home Affairs said, “since January 1st 2015 up to 28th September this year, 56 persons have been detained under PSA, Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.” “Out of them (56), 29 persons are under detention this time.”

The government further said that nine (9) of 29 are involved in militancy related cases.

The reply disclosed that 634 cases under SRO 43 pertaining to NOKs of deceased police personnel are under examination.

Giving district-wise details, the reply said that three persons from separatist camp are detained under PSA from Srinagar district only. Winter capital Jammu has four 4 PSA arrestees under PSA who are habitual criminals while Baramulla has one such case.

Baramulla, Kulgam and Shopian have one, one and four ‘OGWs’ arrested under PSA, the reply added. One militant from Islamabad and one from Kupwara are under PSA. Interestingly, during this period no one has been detained under PSA for timber smuggling.
