The second Hajj flight which took off from Srinagar airport Thursday afternoon around 2:45 pm is reportedly “grounded” at New Delhi’s Indira Ghandhi International airport with Hajjis alleging “creating problems for them”.

A passenger, who is on-board an Indian Airlines flight told Kashmir Life over phone from New Delhi that they have “not been assigned any reason for inordinate delay”. “We landed at New Delhi airport around 4pm and since then we are stuck in the aeroplane,” a passenger on way to Saudi Arabia for annual Hajj pilgrimage said. “No reason has been assigned; we are not even allowed to use washrooms,” he added.

When contacted, Minister for Hajj and Auqaf, Ab Rehman Veeri told Kashmir Life said, “there is space problem in Madeenah Munawarah airport actually that is why the flight was grounded.” “I spoke to passengers and they are OK.”

When asked that passengers are alleging problems, the minister said, “airport authorities can’t let passengers get down of the aeroplane but the flight is just leaving at 7pm.”
