3 dead, several injured as cross-LoC shelling rattles Poonch

Three persons were killed and several others injured after the troops of India and Pakistan exchanged fire and mortars along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch in Jammu and Kashmir.

Earlier, sources confirmed that a ten-year-old boy, identified as Asrar Ahmad, of Mohallha Qasba in the Kerni area and a 15-year-old girl Yasmeen Akhtar of Kerma village of Dighwar were killed in the cross LoC shelling.

However, latest reports pouring in from Poonch said that one more person has died in the exchange of fire.

Officials said that Pakistani troops resorted to “unprovoked and heavy firing and shelling” from across the border in Dhigwar, Kerni and Shahpur sectors around 0650 hours.

“Indian troops guarding the border effectively retaliated,” they said.

Several people also got injured and an Army vehicle got damaged in the exchange of fire. The condition of three of the injured was stated to be “critical”.
