3 Yrs After They Went ‘Missing’, Surankote Lawmaker seeks Whereabouts of 4 Labourers

Congress lawmaker from Surankote Chowdhary Muhammad Akram Thursday sought the whereabouts of five labourers of his constituency who according to him “disappeared” from Dalgate area of Srinagar city.

Shortly before the commencement of proceeding in Lower House of Jammu and Kashmir Legislature, MLA Surankote Chowdhary Muhammad Akram in a bid to draw to the attention of the Speaker Kavinder Gupta entered into the Well after which the Speaker permitted him to speak on his seat.

Akram said that five labourers Muhammad Rafiq son of Muhammad Aslam, Javid Ahmed son of Muhammad Sadiq, Abdul Majid son of Muhammad Rafiq, Mushtaq Ahmed son of Bashir Ahmed and Mushtaq Ahmed son of Syed Muhammad from Surankote had arrived in Dalgate area in June 2013 when Syed Ashiq Bukhari was the SSP Srinagar. “All these five labourers went missing and till date nobody knows about their whereabouts.”

He said that a formal FIR in this regard stands registered in Dalgate (Nehru Park) police station. “Please direct government to initiate inquiry into the incident,” the lawmaker told the Speaker.

After the culmination of the proceedings, Chowdhary Muhammad Akram while quoting the parents of these missing youth told CNS that  the then SSP Srinagar city Ashiq Bukhari had personally investigated the matter but without any results. “I will collect all the details about these missing youth and in a day or two will raise the issue in the House again,” he said.
