The deceased was identified as Shabir Ahmad Poswal, son of Mohd Shafi Poswal, a resident of Gujarpati Drang, Khag.

Officials said the incident occurred after the water level in the Khag Drang Nallah rose suddenly following incessant rain, creating hazardous conditions in the area. The victim was swept away by the strong current and drowned.

Following the incident, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) deployed its Quick Response Team (QRT) and launched a search and rescue operation at the site. Local authorities and rescue teams also reached the area and initiated efforts to retrieve the body.

The incident comes as Budgam district continues to witness flash floods and overflowing streams due to relentless rainfall, with several areas reporting inundation and damage to infrastructure.

Authorities have once again urged people to stay away from rivers, nallahs and other water bodies until the weather improves, warning that rapidly rising water levels pose a serious risk to life.

The search operation was continuing at the time of filing this report.
