3000 Bottles Of Codeine Seized In Awantipora,Kingpin Arrested

Awantipora police busted a network of drug peddlers by arresting a kingpin and recovered 3000 bottles of codeine from him. A police statement here said on Monday.

According to the statement Superintendent of Police, Awantipora, Abdul Waheed constituted a special investigating team after a youth lost his life of drug abuse and complaints pouring in from the public regarding the menace having got foot hold in the area. After the painstaking efforts police generated an information regarding the presence of codeine in the house of Farooq Ahmad Wani son of Ghulam Mohammad Wani, resident of Padgampora. Police on Monday, rushed to Padgampora and conducted search in his house and recovered about 3000 bottles of codeine dumped in the house. The codeine was supposed to be transported to different parts of south Kashmir through the kingpin of this ugly trade.

A truck bearing No. HR55K-6056 that had brought the consignment of Codeine to the house of the accused was also seized.  A Case FIR No.09/2013 has been registered in police station Awantipora. Investigation of the case is going and more recoveries and arrests are expected.
