SRINAGAR: As many as 3,175 rural landless households in Jammu and Kashmir remain without land for housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin (PMAY-G), the Centre informed the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
According to the Ministry of Rural Development, 3,673 landless households have been identified as eligible for assistance under PMAY-G in Jammu and Kashmir. Of these, land has been provided to 498 households, while the remaining 3,175 households are yet to be allotted land by the Union Territory administration.
The figures were disclosed in a written reply by Rural Development Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan to a starred question in the Lok Sabha, based on data available as on August 6, 2026.
At the national level, 5,61,919 rural landless households have been identified as eligible under PMAY-G. Of these, 3,26,183 households have been provided land, while 2,35,736 remain awaiting land allotment by the respective States and Union Territories.
The Centre said landless beneficiaries are accorded priority under PMAY-G and that States and UTs are responsible for providing land to eligible landless households and implementing the scheme on the ground.
Separately, Jammu and Kashmir has a PMAY-G target of 3,41,644 houses, of which 3,34,597 have been sanctioned and 3,26,860 completed. A total of 14,784 houses remain incomplete against the allocated target, according to the latest data.
Across the country, 1.05 crore houses remain incomplete against the overall PMAY-G targets. The Centre attributed delays to factors including beneficiaries’ unwillingness, permanent migration, disputed succession in cases involving deceased beneficiaries, delay in allotment of land to landless beneficiaries, delays in updating credit confirmation through State IFMIS, elections and non-availability of construction material.
The Government said it has approved Phase-II of PMAY-G for completion of an additional two crore houses by March 2029.
It said progress is being monitored through regular reviews, a dedicated dashboard and workshops with States and UTs, besides timely allocation of targets, release of funds and rural mason training programmes aimed at accelerating house construction.
