SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has appointed 335 Medical Officers after receiving the selection of 416 candidates against 480 posts referred to the J&K Public Service Commission during the current year.
The newly appointed doctors will be deployed in areas facing shortages of medical officers, subject to the availability of sanctioned posts and vacancies, the Health and Medical Education Department said in a written reply to Tral MLA Rafiq Ahmad Naik in the Legislative Assembly.
The department said the government was also working to strengthen health infrastructure, specialist services and manpower in Tral, particularly at institutions serving remote and underserved populations.
It said the expansion of facilities and services would be undertaken in phases, based on patient load, local requirements, availability of manpower, Indian Public Health Standards (IPHS), and available resources.
Infrastructure deficiencies would similarly be addressed in a phased manner, subject to approved norms, resource availability, financial implications and provisions of the General Financial Rules (GFR) and other applicable regulations.
The government’s reply to questions on the health institutions operating in Tral, including their sanctioned and in-position medical, paramedical and specialist staff, referred to Annexure A for the detailed information.
Details regarding diagnostic facilities, emergency services, ambulances and essential medicines available at the institutions were provided separately in Annexure B.
The department said the ongoing measures were intended to progressively strengthen peripheral health institutions and improve access to timely healthcare, particularly for people living in remote and underserved areas.
