SRINAGAR: To curb overloading in passenger vehicles and address other violations, officials in Srinagar cancelled 36 licenses and vehicle registration certificates of offenders on Thursday.

Regional Transport Officer (RTO) Kashmir, Syed Shahnawaz Bukhari, while  addressing the media at his office chamber, urged all stakeholders, including civil society members and religious clerics, to educate the public on overloading and traffic awareness to prevent major accidents.

Bukhari, stressed the importance of road safety awareness and overloading education, particularly in light of the recent accident in Baramulla’s Uri area, which resulted in several fatalities.

He highlighted the crucial role of civil societies and religious clerics, noting that people listen to them attentively.

“In Srinagar district alone, 36 licenses along with vehicle registration certificates were cancelled for various offenses,” RTO said.

“We will conduct investigations at different levels, and in the future, decisive action will be taken to prevent accidents like the one in Uri,” he added, urging the public to share responsibility in putting an end to norm violations—(KNO)
