SRINAGAR: The health workers who are on the frontline against Covi-19 managed have not been speared by the life-threatening contagion. Reports said that of the 1044 health workers who were infected by the virus, 367 were doctors. Remaining 677 were paramedics.

Srinagar district tops the list of health workers impacted apparently because all the major facilities are in the capital city. Of 345 recorded cases of infection in the medical fraternity, 179 were doctors; Jammu based newspaper Daily Excelsior reported. “Out of 124 in Budgam 40 are doctors, while as in Baramulla, out of 122, 29 are doctors.”

Shopian reported 30 such cases including four doctors. Anantnag had 100 such cases with 37 doctors, Bandipora 52 with 8 doctors, Ganderbal 84 cases with 13 doctors, Kulgam 50 with 12 doctors, Kupwara 79 with 23 doctors and Pulwama 59 with 22 doctors.

The first case involving a health care worker being detected positive was on April 7. Two weeks later, a doctor was also tested positive from the same district on April 21.

Kashmir has lost two doctors to Covid-19 so far.
