In a written reply to a question raised by MLA Abdul Majeed Bhat, the Revenue Department stated that the total notified evacuee (custodian) land across the Jammu and Kashmir divisions amounts to 1,44,932 kanals and 6 marlas.

Of this, the Kashmir Division accounts for 55,960 kanals and 15.25 marlas of notified evacuee land. The government said that 3,982 kanals, 1.5 marlas and 97 square feet in the division are currently under unauthorised occupation or court cases.

The government informed the House that the Evacuee Property Department has initiated proceedings under the provisions of the JK Evacuee (Administration of Property) Act, 2006, along with the relevant rules, to reclaim such land.

It further stated that in recent years, 2,441 kanals, 1.5 marlas and 97 square feet of evacuee property in the Kashmir Division have been retrieved following the eviction of illegal occupants and the cancellation of unlawful leases or allotments.

The government added that certain parcels of evacuee land remain sub judice, and further recovery measures will be undertaken strictly in accordance with the law.
