Clashes erupted in Ajas area of Bandipora district after forces foiled a ‘pro-freedom’ rally in the area.
Earlier reports said that police arrested four youth in the area.
“Following the arrests, youth took to streets and clashed with police deployed in the village to foil Ajas chalo who responded by firing dozens of tear smoke and flash bang shells to disperse the protesting youth,” residents of Ajas said.
In a bid to foil the proposed march, residents alleged that police also sealed Jamia Masjid Ajas.
Meanwhile, police officials said that some youth were picked on charges of stone pelting. However, they refuted the reports of clashes in the area.
