44 Street Food Vendors Fined for Unhygienic Practices

   

SRINAGAR: The Food Safety Wing of the Drugs and Food Control Organisation has penalised 44 street food vendors in Srinagar for violating hygiene and sanitation norms under the Food Safety and Standards Act (FSSA). A collective fine of Rs 56,000 has been imposed on the erring vendors.

The enforcement drive, conducted on the directions of the administration, covered several areas in the district, including Panthachowk, Karan Nagar, Batamaloo, and Hazratbal. During the inspections, the department examined raw materials, ingredients, and final food products sold by the vendors. Food found unfit for human consumption was destroyed on the spot.

Officials also warned vendors against the use of newspapers and non-food grade utensils for food preparation and sale. They were instructed to adhere strictly to Good Hygienic Practices (GHP) to ensure consumer safety. Citizens have been urged to report food safety concerns by calling the toll-free helpline 104.
