The chairman Hurriyat Conference (G) Syed Ali Geelani Saturday said that the political detainees in all the jails were provided substandard food and medicines and no proper treatment is provided to ailing detainees.
He expressed his deep concern over the plight of prisoners and said that a large number of prison inmates are suffering from various diseases and their condition has deteriorated since no proper treatment is provided to them.
While naming the detainees, Geelani said that Mohammad Ayub Dar, Mohammad Yasin Yatoo and Shakeel Ahmad Bhat are ailing since long in Srinagar Central Jail while as Maqsood Ahmad Butt, Ijaz Ahmad Dar, Bilal Ahmad Dar, Mohammad Ashraf Kumar and Shabir Ahmad Bhat logged in Baramulla Sub jail are suffering from many ailments.
“The medical facilities are for name sake and the medicines supplied to prisoners are of substandard quality .The doctors attending the prisoners ask ailing prisoners to purchase medicine from market,” he said
Geelani in his appeal to human rights organizations based in Jammu and Kashmir and International; Red Cross committee and stressed to take notice of the plight of political prisoners in jails and fulfill their obligations with respect to their proper care and treatment.
