SRINAGAR: A 45-year-old man was critically injured after being attacked by a bear near his house in the Barari area of Sawjian in Mandi, Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday, officials said.
The victim was identified as Nisar Ahmed, son of Bashir Ahmed, a resident of Gagrian (Barari).
Following the attack, Ahmed was taken to Sub-District Hospital Mandi for treatment. Given the severity of his injuries, he was subsequently referred to District Hospital Poonch and later shifted to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for further treatment, officials said.
The incident has prompted local residents to call on the Wildlife Department to take preventive measures to reduce the risk of further bear attacks in the area.
