Five Indian Army soldiers were killed and one is missing in an avalanche that struck the Siachen Glacier early on Sunday.
The incident occurred in Sub-sector Hanief of the Glacier when troops were moving between posts at 19,000 feet. A rescue operation is underway to trace the missing soldier, defense sources said.
A medium danger avalanche warning was on Sunday issued for area close to Line of Control in Kashmir. The avalanche warning was also issued for north Kashmir Ski resort of Gulmarg, Jawahar Tunnel in south Kashmir and Banihal town.
