In an accident in North Kashmir, five people were killed while four others injured on Monday, reports said.

“A mini-passenger carrier which was on way from Kupwara district to Srinagar, collided with a mini-truck resulting in on-the-spot death of five commuters,” an official said.

The mishap took place on the Srinagar-Baramulla highway near Haigam-Pattan this morning. Three commuters were seriously injured and were shifted to hospital, he added.

“Among those killed are two women Naza Begum and Sara,” the official said, adding, “Mohammad Shafi Malik, Dilshad Ahmad Pir, also died in the incident– all those killed in the mishap are from Kupwara.”

The reports added that one of the dead is a 30-year-old man who is yet to be identified.
